What is the best way to isolate a person/item in Photoshop?

I currently use paths, the pen tool, and then add a layer mask.
Is there a better way, or is that it?

Does Photoshop CS3 have thumbnail previews in Windows ?

I’m talking about when you pull up a folder and view your files as thumbnails instead of list, icons..etc. in WINDOWS XP. Does CS3 version still not have the thumbnail previews for Window?

I know that the versions before CS or whatever had the previews but I’m not sure if CS3 has them.

For some reason, embedded thumbnails were disabled in Photosohop CS and above
